Lancaster County Emergency Training Facility

About the Facility
The Lancaster County Emergency Training Facility was completely new construction. This new facility was built on a property that was once a malleable casting plant. As such, the land was riddled with hazardous wastes and contamination left from the removal of the castings plant. Before construction could begin, the land needed to be reclaimed.

This state-of-the-art training facility is comprised of eight independent buildings that house:

• Administrative offices
• A world-class rifle and pistol range
• A drill tower
• A burn building
• And more!

This facility, and all of its features, is available to over 8,000 Lancaster County volunteers, including: Local Fire Departments, Police Departments, Fire Police, EMT’s, and Emergency Response Hazmat units.

HVAC
The building was designed so that the duct systems were suspended through A-Framed roof joists from mechanical lofts, some of which would be hidden from public view within hollow beams. This was a unique design which required skillful and careful coordination drawing on our part. We laid out dimensions and elevations well before we were mobilized to the job site. An improved process for production allowed us to release fabricated duct in full trailer loads and to have the material staged on-site early in the schedule. This logistical plan allowed us to overcome the degree of difficulty added by the multi-building complex being simultaneously constructed.

Tasks Performed:

• Provided and installed: air distribution equipment, gas/electric heating and cooling units, and energy recovery equipment.
• Sheet metal fabrication and installation.
